Ozone Depletion
Why it is Bad
The Ozone layer is a layer that absorbs the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. Ozone Depletion is bad because when the ozone layer is being thinned, global warming is created. It is causing global warming because it is so thin, making it hard for it to absorb all of the sun. It is thinning because of CFC's (chlorofluorocarbon). They are used in a lot of your household appliances and when it leaks out into the air it goes up to the ozone layer. At the ozone layer there's a chemical reaction between them, which cause the ozone layer to break apart. |
What You Can Do
To help with Ozone Depletion you can make sure that you don't hold your refrigerator or freezer open longer than what it needs to be. Also if you need to get several things out of your refrigerator or freezer close it in between your trips. This gives the CFC's less chance of getting out into the open air. |
